In the blockchain space in recent times, It's almost impossible not to have encountered the terms '' Web 2.0'' and ''Web 3.0''. Before we discuss both these concepts, let's highlight their predecessor Web 1.0.
What is Web 1.0
This can be dubbed the first phase of the internet. In this phase, the web pages served static content served from server file systems. It was impossible to interact with content on the internet in this era. It could be thought of as a read-only web.
Web 2.0
Web 2.0 is the web as we know it. This generation of internet service enables user interactivity with content available on the web. People can interact with content on the internet by simply liking a picture on Facebook, or commenting on a post they like. Web 2.0 focuses on high responsiveness to user input, Apps that thrived in this era include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn. These apps were the go-to for activities such as media coverage, blogging, brand influencing, voting. This era of the web is also known as the Social Web.
Web 3.0
Web 3.0 is supposed to be the answer to all the flaws that Web2.0 possesses, with decentralization being at the forefront as one of its uniqueness. Web3.0 applications either run on blockchains, decentralized networks of many peer to peer nodes (servers). These apps are often referred to as dapps (decentralized apps).
In web3, developers don't usually build and deploy applications that run on a single server or that store their data in a single database (usually hosted on and managed by a single cloud provider).
Web 3.0 is the “executable” phase of the web, In Web 3.0, computers will be able to understand information similarly to humans, through technologies based upon Semantic Web concepts and natural language processing. Web 3.0 will also use machine learning, which is a branch of artificial intelligence (AI) that uses data and algorithms to imitate how humans learn, gradually improving its accuracy.
